Weaving session at Whitehawk Community Food Project with this large beautiful loom.

Weaving is one of humanity’s oldest crafts, dating back thousands of years, and has played a vital role in daily life, culture, and survival. Through weaving, communities transformed raw fibers into cloth for clothing, shelter, and trade.

The process carries deep cultural knowledge, passed down through generations, reflecting local materials, patterns, and stories.

Today, traditional weaving remains important not only for preserving heritage and craftsmanship, but also for promoting sustainability, patience, and a connection between people, materials, and history.
