Garden Yurt Yoga

Beginning your Sunday on the mat with Tanya in the Community Garden Yurt, the wood burner crackling, and calming incense in the air. Yoga is a time to relax your mind, strengthen your body and connect to your breath.

The yurt comfortably fits the yoga group circled around the edges, mats facing towards the centre, the large skylight streaming sunlight down into the space, which highlights the wonderful artwork along the yurts posts and ceiling beams.

Starting with a few simple warm-up moves, targeting different areas of the body, gently moving the muscles and joints. Tanya then leads the group through a series of stretching, flexibility, strength and balance improving postures.

Slow movements and deep breathing increase blood flow and warm up muscles, while holding a pose for 5 full breaths can build strength, physically and mentally.

As Tanya moves through instructing the poses, she offers variations depending on our individual fitness levels, whether you aim is to build physical strength or to relax and connect with your breath.

A wonderful location for a session of yoga, sitting inside our colourful and welcoming yurt, set within the Whitehawk Community Garden. These yoga sessions are loved by our Whitehawk Community members of all ages and abilities.

After the yoga is an optional sitting of guided meditation, a perfect location to release the mind and enjoy the sounds of the surrounding garden space, with the wind blowing through the trees, birds singing, chickens talking and the crackling of the fire.

Tanya holds yoga yurt sessions on Sundays from about 11:15am.

They normally book up quite quickly, if you are interested in joining a session, please email whitehawkcommunityallotment@gmail.com to let us know and book your place.

Yoga offers physical and mental health benefits for all ages, if you’re going through an illness, recovering from hardship or living with a chronic condition, yoga can become an integral part of your treatment, not just physically, but mentally and spiritually too.
