Lovely Foraging and feasting walk from Craig Jordan Baker at Whitehawk Community Food Prohject, in collaboration with BHOGG.

Dr Craig Jordan-Baker is a lecturer from Brighton University, a writer and academic with an interest in landscape, ecology and Irish literature. As well as running literary events and courses, he runs nature walks, lectures and foraging workshops.

He is the author of two books, 'The Nacullians' and 'If the River is Hidden' (époque press) and contributing co-editor of 'Writing Landscape and Setting in the Anthropocene- Britain and Beyond' (Palgrave).

His second novel, ‘Brick Dust’ will be published in September 2025. Currently, he is working on a book about urban flora entitled ‘Groundwork’ for Transworld/Penguin.

Despite the gloomy forecast we didn't get wet.

Foraging encourages a deep understanding of local ecosystems, seasonal cycles, and plant identification. Foraging promotes sustainability by relying on renewable natural resources and fostering respect for the land.

When practiced responsibly, it helps maintain biodiversity and traditional ecological knowledge passed down through generations. Beyond nutrition, foraging strengthens the connection between people and nature, encouraging mindfulness and self-reliance.

Today, foraging remains important as a way to supplement diets, preserve cultural heritage, and inspire environmentally conscious living.
